Hickory Lake Spillway: On August 26, 2019 we had an extreme amount of rainfall. From several data sources, it was up to 7 inches – all in less than 3 hours! Such a large amount of rain in such a short amount of time exceeded the design capacity of the spillway on Hickory Lake. The excess water caused a significant erosion problem on the downstream end of the spillway.
We’ve already put together an urgent action team and have met with Bax Consulting, who was the consultant on the plans when we rebuilt the spillway in 2013.
The water level is already down to a semi-normal level, so there is nothing else we need to do at the moment. We will be lowering it further for construction. From Ken Daming, Board President. (posted 09/17/2019)
